IMPACT Autism: Kids Day Outs (KDO)

One Sunday a month, during the Fall and Spring semesters, an organization at the University of Florida called IMPACT Autism hosts a three hour event at a local Gainesville site to provide care for children with autism. The event gives children a chance to play and socialize with other children and student volunteers. KDO events help encourage communication and social interaction for the children, while also allowing them to participate in activities of their interest. Some of the activities that the children participate in include, arts and crafts, games, and playground time. Children of all abilities are welcome at IMPACT Autism’s KDO events. The Kids Day Out events are also a form of respite care, because they give the parents the opportunity to have a couple of hours to themselves. Each child is paired with two to three volunteers that play, watch over, and help supervise the child. Kids Day Out events are FREE, but a donation of $10-20 is suggested to help continue the wonderful gatherings.
